My Interview with YouTuber, MarkLovesTea

I just discovered a new Drama Channel, and you guys are seriously missing out if you haven’t been subscribing to him. His name is Mark, and he goes by Marklovestea. Mark is adorable and has such fun videos! You can tell by watching him that he has a heart of gold and a kind soul. Plus, his makeup skills are impeccable! I knew that I would be a subscriber within the first few minutes of watching him! Every time he posts a new video, I have to drop everything and watch! Mark keeps it real and I can tell he will never be a sellout! I reached out recently and asked to interview him; he was such a sweetheart and said yes. I enjoyed talking to the next big Drama Channel and I can’t wait for you all to get to know him!

1. What inspired you to start a YouTube Channel?

What inspired me to do a Youtube channel was feeling like my voice didn’t matter and I deserved a bigger platform. I also saw a lot of Youtubers doing it and I thought, “Hey, if they can, so can I!”. People seem to love my channel so far! I also got inspired by people like Kat Blaque, Petty Paige, MarinaShutUp, and Contrapoints. Amazing Youtubers everybody should check out. If they ever subscribed to me, I would cry my eyes out. I don’t think I make content they would like though…

2. Your makeup skills are amazing! How did you learn to do makeup and what are your favorite brands?

Thank you so much, I try really hard! I learned doing makeup by myself. I did see a couple of tutorials, but I realized they really didn’t do anything for me since no one I’ve seen has had my eye and face shapes. I had to practice by myself! I would say Bad Habit is my favorite brand because I can’t really afford anything else. However, I would love to try products from places like Limecrime and Beauty Bakerie, I love their aesthetics. Now that Doe Deer is gone from Limecrime, the brand isn’t canceled to me anymore. I can’t think of anything else, besides Anastasia. ABH is just for lippies though.

3. I know you’re in college right now. What are you studying? Is it hard balancing school and a YouTube Career?

I’m currently studying Information Systems with a minor in Psychology. I can’t tell you if it’s hard because I started in June, but I imagine it will be…I’m sure I can handle it though, I’m responsible like that!

4. Do you plan to make YouTube a full-time career?

Let me preface this…I hope no one takes this the wrong way, because I am completely serious and in love with Youtube and doing videos. I never think making Youtube a full-time career is a smart move. Props to the people who do it, no shade to them. However, you should never put all your eggs in one basket, especially in a platform that’s constantly changing like Youtube (Google, per se). People keep leaving Youtube every day for its changing algorithms and the infamous “Ad-Pocalypse”. People say the ad-pocalypse is over, but what if something similar happens again? Lots of people left when so much as a change in ads happened. I believe people should treat Youtube like a side job or a hobby you can profit off of because Youtube might be completely gone one day or impossible to continue profiting from. Always have something else, always have an out. You never know what could happen. You can tell Youtube sometimes isn’t enough when people have to open up Patreons. In my opinion, though, Patreon and Youtube can be risky for most people. 1) Youtube is becoming stricter with ads and monetization, and 2) Patreon depends on other people willing to give you money. What if you screw up one day and people may not like you anymore? You should always have something that is *guaranteed* to bring you in money. We shouldn’t be fooled by the bigger Youtubers who seem to have everything, because you never know what they’re going through financially and what they do to stay afloat. So, in short, I don’t think I’d make it full-time if it means quitting my job…I would open a Patreon though, to help my cash flow along with Youtube and my job. If people wanted to help.

5. Are there any YouTubers or subjects that you feel like you shouldn’t cover on your Channel? If so, why is that line drawn? Or, is no one off limits?

I don’t think any Youtubers are off-limits, because I don’t believe anybody is above criticism. That’s the basis of a good drama channel. When you start picking favorites, your reliability and reputation is shot to the ground..Bias is never cute. As for subjects, I feel like anything too personal that can potentially lead to invasion of privacy is off-limits. The biggest example I can think about is the Jaclyn Hill divorce and how people kept gossiping about how her ex already had a new girlfriend or something…That shit is too personal, there’s really nothing to criticize here because they’re really not hurting anyone else, it’s stuff that happens in any relationship, and it’s kind of redundant. Jaclyn even told people to stop commenting on it, because it was pretty hurtful. I stopped watching a lot of people who covered that, especially when they said they wouldn’t before for the same reasons I highlighted. There’s actual drama and issues out there going on almost every day, you can pick and choose amongst many things. Even though we’re drama channels, morals and ethics should still be a part of what we do. We shouldn’t be proving people right by letting them think we’re heartless, emotionless, and negative. You know, assholes.

6. What are your plans for both your YouTube Channel and personally, such as school and career?

My big plans for Youtube is keep making videos that I love and am comfortable with, so far it’s worked and I’ve been having lots of fun. It’s actually helped me cope with my stress, anxiety, and depression. Gives me something to look forward to, since I now have a community of people that care and listen to what I have to say! It feels so nice, I cry every day thinking about it in excitement. Honestly! Now for school and career. I would love to really just be comfortable, financially and emotionally. I’m not really one to be too optimistic, so I usually keep my goals realistic so I feel like I’m accomplishing something. As long as I have a roof over my head, money to feed myself and my pets, and I’m happy with everything I’m doing…I’m content. Also money for internet and my phone………

Thank you very much, Mark! You are so good at makeup, videos and are such a sweetie-pie! I am rooting for you both on YouTube and in your personal life and I’m proud to call you a friend. As I’ve always said to you, “ride or die!” I’m sending you big hugs and you have me as a subscriber as well as a friend for life! You can follow him on Twitter here and please, subscribe!

What Is Happening to the YouTube Beauty Community? Part 1.

We always hold our favorite celebrities on a pedestal, but the YouTube celebrities get placed on an even higher one. This is because they don’t have an army of managers, agents and PR People around them controlling their every move. Sure, some of them will probably employ a few of those people down the road, but at the end of the day, it’s still the YouTuber, in front of a camera, talking to us and interacting with us on social media as well. So in a sense, they’re more we see them more than celebrities, we see them as our friends.

Before I go any further I need to make it clear that no one who ever walked this earth except Jesus Christ Himself is perfect. Every single last one of us has made mistakes; we’ve all done and said cruel things. I know if I ever become relevant, there will surely be something from my past that will come up. No, I can’t think of anything, but I’ sure someone else will (once again if I ever become relevant). But I pray that I will have the strength to own up to any mistakes and not make excuses.

So, what does this have to do with the Beauty Community on YouTube? Well, if you watch these videos from MarkLovesTea, Petty Paige, Panicked Antics, Beauty Truth Sleuth, Tea Spill and many more Channels, then you’ll know, thanks to Beauty Guru Gabriel Zamora running his big mouth about Jeffree Star, Gabriel accidentally exposed himself in the process. With him, Laura Lee and Nikita Dragun were also exposed. (I highly suggest you watch these videos for the real tea. Let me tell you, this tea is HOT!)

But let’s be honest, we’ve been seeing the ugly side of Beauty Gurus for quite some time. From Kathleenlights dropping an offensive racist word to Jackie Ania lying about Petty Paige hacking her personal bank account and more, the Beauty Community seems to have been crumbling for quite some time. So, what do we, as the viewers, do about it? Or can we do anything? Do we have any say in this?

I don’t want this blog to go on for too long, so Part 2 should be up on Friday at the latest. I’m just afraid if I blab on for too long I’ll lose you. So, I end it here for now and conclude it in a few days. Until then, thank you for reading and I hope you’ll continue to stick around!
