Actress Kerry Washington has done her second round of Palettes for Neutrogena. The first time it included both eyeshadow and blush palettes. I still own the first eyeshadow Palette, which you can see here:
The Palette was OK. I felt like the colors didn’t blend very well unless you really worked with it and dug your brushes into them. Still, the colors lasted all day and the payoff was nice for the low price I paid. I just wish I didn’t have to work so hard at getting the colors on my eyes, though.
Now, we’re going to focus on the present. The second round of Palettes includes another eyeshadow and this time, a lip Palette instead of blush. Here’s a photo of the eyeshadow Palette:
Here’s what the inside looks like:
These shadows are on the warm/neutral side. Compared to the first Palette, it is not a big difference. The first Palette had darker colors and definitely wasn’t as warm as this batch, but I’m not seeing a dramatic difference between the two. Here’s a comparison and if you disagree, let me know in the comments.
I may do a comparison of these two in the not too distant future. (Mystery Science Theater reference for some of you out there!) But for now, we’re going to just test out the new Palette. From left to right are the swatches on my arm:
As you can tell, not super pigmented. Also, just like with the first Palette, I had to really work with the colors to get some payoff.
Now that I got done with that, let’s get started with my actual review. As always, I started out by applying my Urban Decay Primer Potion. I then applied the first color on the left on my lids as my base color.
I know it doesn’t look like it, but it actually is more pigmented than it looks. I’m pleased.
After that, I took the third color and applied it on my lids. Here it is:
Although I had to dip my brush in twice to get the right amount of color, the payoff is good.
I took the fourth color and applied it just above my lid:
This part was a tad bit frustrating because I had to go in a few times to get some color. It’s not as pigmented as I’d like, but it’s fine.
Next, I applied the last color to my last line:
The color is nice, but I had to dip my brush in a few times once again to get the payoff I wanted. I like it, but I feel like I shouldn’t have to dip my brush in so much to get this payoff.
Lastly, I took the second color and applied it to my brow bone:
As you can tell, not very pigmented at all. I’m quite disappointed. But, overall, the Palette is good except for that one. Here’s the look before mascara is applied:
I actually think it’s quite nice considering the price point. So far, I think it’s an improvement over the first one.
I then finished my makeup routine and here’s the final result:
Like I said, it’s a big improvement from the first Palette. Would I recommend it? If you’re into drugstore products, then yes, I would. This Palette is nice and is worth the price if you don’t have a lot of money to drop on a more expensive one. But I will admit, there are better drugstore eyeshadows, like NYX or Colourpop.
Overall, I’m happy, I just won’t be reaching for this as much as some of my other Palettes.
