This is Baxter. Even though he is a Dachshund, my husband and I consider him to be our son. We adopted him in August of 2011 when he was just 2 months old from the Montgomery Humane Society. The moment I held him in my arms, my heart instantly burst with a kind of love that I can’t describe! I was and still am over the moon! My husband and I would do anything for Baxter, and you know what? He would do the same for us!
Baxter is also my protector. If Baxter believes that I’m in any kind of danger for a second, then he’ll risk everything to protect me.
There have also been times where I’ve been sad and started crying because of my anxiety disorder. Right away, Baxter will run over to me and lick me until my tears have stopped.
A couple of times, I have accidentally hurt myself, like a slight nick while shaving. Once Baxter sees the wound, he feels like he needs to take care of me by licking the area. My son has given me unconditional love and I give him the same in return.
Baxter is a permanent member of our family and I will always be his Mommy, no matter what. Don’t tell me he’s just a dog!
The most important lesson he has taught me are the two words I mentioned earlier, unconditional love. Sure, you can get annoyed with someone, even angry, but you never stop loving them and you don’t ever give up on them.
Baxter also taught me through unconditional love to not sweat the small stuff some people do that may get under my skin. Just like with a dog, they may not realize that they’ve upset you, so just let it go!
This leads me to the upcoming film, DOG DAYS, which is coming out on August 8th, 2018. The synopsis is as follows:
DOG DAYS is a hilarious and heartfelt ensemble comedy that follows the lives of multiple dog owners and their beloved fluffy pals. When these human and canine’s paths start to intertwine, their lives begin changing in ways they never expected. This is a sweet film about the joy our furry friends bring into our lives and what they can teach us about treating people with kindness and compassion. DOG DAYS releases in theaters on August 8th.
