My Interview with Jen Gerard

I was ecstatic when Jen Gerard agreed to an interview with me. Jen has not only built a successful cosmetics line but is also a beautiful woman on the inside and out. I love how she not only cares so much about what she puts out in her line but her own customers as well. I see her interacting with her customers on social media and is very personable and down-to-earth. Success has not gone to this wonderful woman’s head!

I also wanted to say that this meant a lot to me on a personal level as well. Jen is someone who I consider a friend and someone who I trust. Jen has helped me out of a situation that I can never repay her for except a million thank you’s because she did so out of the goodness of her own heart. (Nothing illegal or “bad” was done on my part. Jen helped me get out of something I was NOT supposed to be involved in and again, I owe her all my love and gratitude.)

So, take it from someone who was bullied all of their school years, there are good people out there in the world, like Jen, who want to help and who expect nothing in return. Take a note from Jen and do something nice for someone in need just because it’s the right thing to do! It might do more good than you think!

Back to the interview, it was so much fun interviewing her and I hope you get to know her a little more and if you haven’t already, try our her killer makeup!

1. What made you decide to go into cosmetics in the first place?

After I started Whitening Lightning, we started making cosmetic products the first year. I saw an opportunity to do some things a little differently than they have been done in the past and just decided to go for it. Our lip glosses and Brow Bar to Go quickly became super popular and it was actually one of our YouTubers that came up with the idea to start a standalone cosmetic line. I thought it was a great idea and we came up with the name and launched a year later.

2. When did you realize you had finally “made it”?

I remember being at a beauty convention in New York our first year and running into influencer after influencer that had a well-used tube of our nude lip gloss in their purse. They all said it was their favorite. We even got a few calls and text messages from people who lost their tube on the trip and needed an immediate replacement. I think that was the moment I knew we were really onto something.

3. What has been your most popular selling cosmetic item to date and why do you think that is?

Definitely the HydraMatte and gold bullet lipsticks “Iced Mocha” and “1995.” They are perennial favorites for all skin tones.

4. Do you have a favorite influencer you’ve worked with or do you love them all but in different ways?

I don’t really have a favorite. I will say that I have been blessed to make some very amazing relationships with some very amazing people who happen to be influencers. I really see them more as my family and love watching someone start from the beginning and become a major force in our industry. I truly love them all!

5. Are there any misconceptions about you and/or Gerard Cosmetics as a brand?

I am sure that there are but I really try not to focus on that. I try to spend my time spreading love to our customers and throughout the beauty community. There is so much that brings us together when it comes to makeup.

6. What is something about you that you’d like your fans to know more about you that you think they may not know?

We are very passionate about delivering a top quality product and top-notch service to our customers. I have had plenty of companies interested in acquiring the brand but I have stayed independent in order to make sure that we are in control of achieving that goal. We realize that our brand would be nowhere without the people who have supported us along the way and there is just no way I can let them down.

7. Finally, what does the future hold for Gerard Cosmetics? Do you have any big collaborations and/or releases you’re working on? I know you released a beautiful lipstick recently!

We have so many awesome things in the works. We are trying some things that have never been done before. We recently released “Slay Away the Day “Makeup melting balm in three great scents: peach, rose, and lavender. This product is a game changer. It removes all types of makeup in an instant and conditions the skin at the same time. It’s in a squeeze tube so it’s also sanitary which I love. I’m so proud of this product.

Thank you very much, Jen! It has been a pleasure getting to know you over these past few months and I’m thankful that you took the time to let me interview you. I look up to successful women such as you and see you as a great role model. I wish you nothing but continued success both in your personal and professional life!

“Two-thirds of female victims of stalking were stalked by a current or former partner and around 40% of males were stalked by an intimate partner or acquaintance”.
Before we go, Jen wanted me to talk about an issue that’s not only close to her heart but mine as well. That has to do with domestic violence and stalking. According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline,
“nearly 3 in 10 women and 1 and 10 men in the US have experienced rape, physical violence and/or stalking by a partner in the course of a year.”

“Repeatedly receiving unwanted telephone calls, voice, or text messages, was the most commonly experienced stalking tactic experienced for both female and male victims of stalking. (78.8 % for women and 75.9% for men.)”

These are issues both Jen and I know all-too-well. Jen’s story is not mine to tell. As for mine, that’s for another blog. We want you to know that many domestic violence shelters are in need of basic things many women have at home such as clothing, toiletries, makeup, laundry detergent, diapers and wipes, and so much more. Why do domestic violence shelters need makeup? Because a lot of women either have jobs they still need to go to in order to provide for their families so they can afford a new place, or they need to be able to get a job in order to finally find a place they can call their own. Donating cosmetics items such as foundation, concealer, blush, (all in a WIDE variety of shade ranges) as well as mascara are all very much needed. (This website gives a good list on what to donate.)
